HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Triple Crown prospect Top Billing cracked his right front cannon bone in a workout Saturday and is off the Triple Crown trail.

Trainer Shug McGaughey says Top Billing will undergo surgery in Kentucky either Sunday or Monday and the long-term prognosis is good.

Top Billing had run three times at Gulfstream Park this year, hitting the board in each of those races. It included a third-place showing in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth that suggested he could be a factor in the Triple Crown races.

Top Billing was targeted for the Florida Derby on March 29. McGaughey says he may shift Honor Code, who makes his 2014 debut Wednesday at Gulfstream, toward the Florida Derby instead.

McGaughey trained Orb to a win in last year's Kentucky Derby.
