Upshaw leads Hofstra past Wilmington 78-70

BALTIMORE (AP) — Zeke Upshaw had 23 points and four 3-pointers to lead eighth-seeded Hofstra over ninth-seeded NC-Wilmington 78-70 in the opening round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament on Friday night.

Upshaw was 4 of 7 from long distance and Dion Nesmith added 15 points for Hofstra (10-22) which advances to face top-seeded Delaware on Saturday.

After Chris Dixon hit a 3-pointer to give Wilmington (9-23) a 70-69 lead with 2:27 to play, the Pride scored nine unanswered points to take the lead and hold on for the win.

Moussa Kone had 11 points and nine rebounds for Hofstra, which shot 50.9 percent overall and outrebounded Wilmington 44-29.

Craig Ponder had 24 points and Freddie Jackson scored 16 for the Seahawks, who fell behind 58-50 but responded with a 10-1 run to take the lead.

From there the game went back-and-forth until the Pride's decisive effort in the final two minutes.
