SALT LAKE CITY — The man accused of setting a four-alarm, $6 million fire in downtown Salt Lake City pleaded not guilty to a charge of arson this week.

Dustin Jay Bowman, 33, of Bountiful, was indicted on one count of arson. He is accused igniting a fire on Feb. 9 that destroyed a 64,000-square-foot apartment building under construction at 540 E. 500 South. The fire caused an estimated $6 million in damage.

During an arraignment in federal court, Bowman pleaded not guilty. Trial was set for May 12-14.

Noting recent addiction and depression problems, a federal judge ordered Bowman detained without bail pending his trial.
