LOS ANGELES (AP) — Darren Sharper returns to court on Friday where his attorneys will seek the former NFL safety's release from a Los Angeles jail.

The former player has been held without bail because of an arrest warrant issued by Louisiana authorities accusing him and another man of raping two women in September. A criminal case has not yet been filed, and Sharper's attorneys say he cannot legally be held without bail in Los Angeles.

Defense attorneys Blair Berk and Leonard Levine however argue in a motion filed Thursday that Sharper cannot be held indefinitely because he hasn't been formally charged in New Orleans.

Sharper has pleaded not guilty to charges he raped two women in Los Angeles. A judge ordered him held without bail on Feb. 28 after prosecutors cited the Louisiana arrest warrant.
