HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Kaheem Ransom and Dakarai Henderson scored 11 points each as Sam Houston State executed its typical balanced attack in downing SE Louisiana 71-54 on Thursday night.
Michael Holyfield grabbed 13 rebounds and scored eight points for the Bearkats, while Paul Baxter also scored eight points and added 11 assists. The Bearkats shot 49 percent from the field.
Sam Houston State (20-9, 12-5 Southland Conference) landed six 3s in the first half, the Lions netting just one, in building a 37-27 halftime lead. The Bearkats controlled the boards in the initial period 22-12 and gathered eight more offensive rebounds than Southeastern Louisiana.
Sam Houston scored the first eight points of the second half and Southeastern Louisiana (11-17, 6-11) failed to mount any comeback effort in the second half.
Antonnio Benton, Dre Evans and Onochie Ochie scored 11 points each in the SE Louisiana effort.
