HAMPTON, Va. (AP) — Deron Powers scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Hampton over NC A&T 89-71 on Thursday.
Brian Darden and Dwight Meikle each added 13 points and Du'Vaughn Maxwell had 11 points and eight rebounds as Hampton (18-11, 13-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) shot 52 percent, including 10 of 20 from beyond the arc.
NC A&T (9-22, 5-11) was led by Richaud Pack's 14 points. Lamont Middleton had 12, Khary Doby added 11 and Jeremy Underwood chipped in with 10.
Hampton trailed by one with 3:49 left in the first, but closed on an 11-6 run — including a 3-pointer by Breon Key — to lead 45-40 at the break.
The Pirates ran away with it in the second half. An 11-2 run early, then a 19-3 stretch that covered 7:14, sealed NC A&T's fate.
