NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A company is dropping its bid to build a waste-burning gasification power plant in North Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that EP Renewable told the City Council yesterday that the company is withdrawing its application after neighbors expressed concerns about air pollution.

TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) — The pilot injured in a plane crash near the Truckee airport is a former Orange County lawyer who successfully prosecuted the notorious 1970s serial killer Rodney Alcala. Richard Farnell is recovering in a Reno hospital from injuries sustained in Monday's crash of a single-engine plane that killed his wife, Darla.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A new Interstate between Las Vegas and Phoenix is still years away, with the main stumbling block finding the money to pay for the highway. In Nevada, county leaders recently approved a local fuel tax increase to pay for the $300 million Boulder City Bypass, aimed at loosening the most notable bottleneck between Las Vegas and the Arizona border.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Floyd Mayweather revealed on Twitter that his May 3 fight against WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana will take place at the MGM Grand. The bout will unify their 147-pound titles. Mayweather is coming off victories last year over Robert Guerrero and Canelo Alvarez.
