MIAMI (AP) — Professional dance is normally an activity for the able-bodied in tip-top shape, but a Miami-based dance troupe incorporates disabled dancers into its repertoires as a way to enhance performances.
The group, Karen Peterson and Dancers, was founded by Karen Peterson in 1990 out of a desire to push herself as a choreographer. She calls the style "inclusive dance." And for the disabled dancers, including people in wheelchairs, the performances give them confidence and help them to build physical strength.
