CANCUN, Mexico (AP) — Mexican authorities are investigating the killing of a 22-year-old American man who was strangled in the Caribbean resort city of Cancun over the weekend.
Quintana Roo state prosecutors said Tuesday that the body of the man from Kissimmee, Florida, was found on a dirt road Sunday in Punta Sam, a residential area north of downtown Cancun.
They say that the night before, the man, his brother and two friends had gone to a bar in downtown Cancun. Prosecutors have detained the bar's owner and five employees for questioning.
Authorities say the group arrived in Cancun on Friday from the United States.
The U.S. Embassy said it could not immediately comment.
