HONOLULU (AP) — A Canadian navy ship is being towed to Hawaii's Pearl Harbor after an engine fire left 20 sailors with minor injuries.
The Canadian navy says HMCS Protecteur was in the Pacific Ocean north of Hawaii when the fire broke out last week.
The U.S. Navy dispatched guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy to help. The Michael Murphy is expected to return to Pearl Harbor Tuesday carrying 19 family members who had been traveling with the Protecteur crew. It's common for family to join crew members returning from long missions.
Meanwhile, the 44-year-old Canadian vessel is being towed to Pearl Harbor and is expected to arrive Thursday.
The Canadian navy says a doctor on board treated sailors suffering from dehydration, exhaustion and smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
