SAO PAULO (AP) — Parts from the roof of a World Cup stadium in Brazil have fallen onto the field during a storm just hours before a regional championship.
Three pieces of metal used to collect water atop the roof became detached Saturday and fell onto the field near the benches, and also onto the stands at the Mineirao Stadium in the city of Belo Horizonte, which is scheduled to host a World Cup semifinal.
No one was injured.
There were holes on the roof where the metal parts were located and water fell directly into the stands.
The stadium's drainage system also did not appear to be working properly as huge puddles formed on the field before Cruzeiro's 4-0 win over Minas Boca in the Minas Gerais state championship.
