SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — The assistant city manager of Sparks the past 14 years is being promoted to city manager. The city council voted 4-1 to hire Steve Driscoll as the successor to retiring city manager Shaun Carey. Driscoll has worked for the city for 20 years and was appointed assistant city manager in 2000.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A man lashed out in a Las Vegas courtroom at his 31-year-old sister during a hearing on charges that she killed his pregnant wife and unborn child in a knife attack last October. The Las Vegas Sun reports an armed courtroom marshal chastised Aristeo Indico for his verbal outburst during yesterday's court hearing for Elinor Malansing Indico. The judge scheduled an Aug. 18 trial date.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Reno police say the parents are cooperating in an unusual investigation of the death of a baby who was declared dead twice last week. The 8-month old girl was sent to the county morgue after she was declared dead at a Reno hospital on Thursday. But the medical examiner says the infant showed signs of life during. She was declared dead again about four hours later.
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — The parents of a 12-year-old Sparks boy who shot and killed a teacher and wounded two students before turning the gun on himself have donated nearly $14,000 to an anti-bullying program in a partnership with the school district. Jose and Liliana Reyes told the Reno Gazette-Journal they want do the right thing by making the contribution with the money that was given to them through the Sparks Middle School Compassion Fund.
