LAYTON — The Layton Police Department released surveillance video to alert people to watch their children after a recent arrest in connection with a case of lewdness.

Police said that Miles Blakeley, 23, had struck quickly and exposed himself to several children while their parents weren't looking. Several of the parents said they didn’t even know they were victims, but surveillance video from a Layton Target store showed that a man exposed himself to their little daughters.

Lt. Shawn Horton said a family was disgusted when officers told them that Blakeley had allegedly exposed himself to their 5-year-old daughter.

Layton police began their investigation Monday night after a 4-year-old girl told her mother a man had exposed himself in front of her when they were shopping earlier that day at Target, 815 W. 2000 North. Police canvassed nearby stores and reviewed surveillance footage to identify Blakeley, Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said.

Blakeley matches the description of a man involved in a lewdness incident at the nearby Lowe's in November and a Layton Walmart within the past month, Lyman said. The three stores are all within three miles of each other.

Blakeley was booked into the Davis County Jail for investigation of lewdness and child pornography. Blakeley had "a tremendous number" of pornographic videos and pictures on his cellphone when he was arrested in Lowe's, 1055 W. Antelope Drive, where he was working, Lyman said.

Layton police officers released a statement Thursday and said they "would like to encourage parents and other adults to monitor young children closely in these public environments to help ensure their safety."

If you feel that you or your family have been victimized, contact Lyman at 801-336-3443.
