MAGNA — A young child died after a television fell and crushed him Tuesday evening.
Lt. Justin Hoyal of the Unified Police Department said police received a call around 5:30 Tuesday evening notifying them a 2 1/2-year-old boy had been pinned under a TV set.
“He was being watched by his grandparents,” Hoyal said. “They heard a thud from the other room and went in and found that the child had been pinned underneath a 32-inch tube style TV. They immediately called for help.”
Hoyal said the boy was taken to a nearby hospital and then transported via helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in extremely critical condition. Police reported that the boy died from his injuries Tuesday night.
Hoyal said no foul play is suspected and the grandparents are cooperating with police in the investigation.
“Unfortunately, this case serves as a sad, tragic reminder for parents to be aware of objects that are up on stands, making sure that they’re secure and can’t fall over on children,” Hoyal said.
The name of the child is not being released at this time.
