Content Advisory for this production. A romantic cliffhanger! When handsome, dashing but penniless Morris Townsend begins to court Catherine Sloper does he truly understand Catherine's passionate and beautiful spirit? Is this Catherine's last chance for love, or is Townsend, as her father suspects, merely a calculating fortune hunter? This lush period piece will keep the audience guessing until the end. Catherine Sloper, gentle and painfully shy, lives quietly with her widowed father in New York City's wealthy Washington Square in 1850. Her father Dr. Sloper is a gruff, aloof widower who relentlessly compares Catherine to his deceased wife. He becomes convinced that his daughter's handsome, dashing suitor is only after her money. The plot turns on the question of whether Catherine will find true happiness with Morris or whether, as her father suspects, he is merely an opportunistic fortune hunter.
