Paris (dpa) - Second seed Kim Clijsters survived a mid-match slump before overcoming Frenchwoman Virginie Razzano 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) to reach the second round in swirling winds at the French Open Monday.
The 2001 and 2003 runner-up and defending US Open champion started playing in a rush after winning the opening set in double-quick time - just 22 minutes.
A run of errors from the Belgian gave 66th-ranked Razzano a chance, with the challenger reaching 4-2 in the second set.
But with dust blowing in her eyes, Clijsters found her form just in time, saving two set points in the tenth game after breaking back in the ninth.
She escaped in the tiebreaker to win her 18th match in Paris.
