SALT LAKE CITY — Police were searching late Saturday for a man who they say struck another man with his truck — seriously injuring him — following an altercation.
The call came to police around 4 p.m., reporting an incident at 550 W. 200 South.
"It was reported that someone may have intentionally driven up on the sidewalk and struck a pedestrian," Salt Lake Police Lt. Josh Scharman said.
The truck's driver got into an argument with his two passengers, one male and one female, and the argument escalated until they either decided to exit the vehicle or were told to do so. The driver then attempted to "run them down," Scharman said.
The driver struck the male passenger, who police said was a "close acquaintance," and ran over a tree in the process. The man suffered broken bones and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, Scharman said.
The female was uninjured, but is related to the suspect and was able to provide police with his information.
"Our suspect is known to us," Scharman said. "He's still outstanding and we would certainly like to talk to him about how this all occurred. … We recovered the truck, we're just looking for him."
The man who was hit was in serious, but stable condition. Scharman said his injuries were not life-threatening.
