Randall Jeppesen reporting Some Provo Canyon residents are hoping Utah County leaders will force a campground owner to clean up what they call a "major mess" before it's allowed to be reopened.
No-trespassing signs line the snow-covered entrance to Frazier Park. The popular river tubing area is also filled with trailers, many old and broken down.
"It looks like, you know, a third-world refugee camp," said David Studdert, who leads a group called the Provo Canyon Coalition. The group is trying to get the land cleaned up.
All the residents living in the trailers here were forced to leave in December after a fire damaged the power system. Studdert says now the county should act. "We just want to make sure they're up to code, because they're not," he said.
The park's owner, Leon Frazier, has said he doesn't plan on renting out the trailers anymore. Instead, he says he's sticking to the float tube rental business.
