Randall Jeppesen reporting Some BYU construction management students are taking a class designed at figuring out how to get by in the workplace when there are language barriers.
Debbie Jones created the program she calls "In a Pinch." It's a small reference guide designed for the workplace where there might be language barriers.
At BYU, Jones is teaching construction management students how to quickly use these guides. The guides show them how to talk in Spanish about framing or safety with quick, short phrases.
"So, perfection isn't the key. It's efficiency," Jones said.
She says construction is the biggest area, but she also has guides for nurses, dentists, pharmacists, firefighters, and other professions where people might need some quick language help.
