SALT LAKE CITY — Utah forward Jordan Loveridge was named by CBS Sports as the national player of the week Monday. Loveridge led the Runnin' Utes to a much-needed rivalry victory over the BYU Cougars Saturday.
Loveridge came out with a hot hand Saturday, scoring 15 points in the first 7 minutes of the game. He ended the game with 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, and one block and steal in 38 minutes.
"I'm really happy for him that he was able to get going and was a huge catalyst for our energy level to start off with," head coach Larry Krystkowiak said following the game.
Loveridge had an equally-talented game earlier in the week against Idaho State, ending the night with 27 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks. He ended the week averaging 24 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
Loveridge was also named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, making him the first player from Utah to win the award since the school joined the Pac-12 in 2011.
