VERNAL — Sheriff's deputies arrested a man who led them on a chase at speeds over 100 miles per hour in Uintah County.

A deputy saw a vehicle speeding down the middle of both eastbound lanes of Main Street in Vernal around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, deputies said in a news release.

The deputy pulled the car over and it entered the parking lot of a 7-Eleven convenience store at 501 E. Main St. As the deputy approached, the driver shifted into reverse and started backing toward the deputy, according to investigators.

The car then sped away eastbound on state Route 40 toward Naples, traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour. The chase ended when the driver lost control and crashed into a snow bank west of Jensen.

The driver fled on foot but was located and taken into custody. Cole Glade, 31, of Bismark, ND, was taken to Ashley Regional Medical Center for treatment and later booked into Uintah County Jail for investigation of evading police, DUI with priors, drug possession with priors, and driving with a revoked driver's license.

Deputies said police dogs found illegal narcotics in Glade's car.
