PARK CITY — A BYU student qualified for the luge Olympic team on Friday.
Friday the 13th is anything but unlucky for California native Kate Hansen, because it's the day the BYU student qualified for a spot on the U.S. Olympic luge team when she took fourth place at the luge World Cup.
"Feeling really good. Just stoked. Pretty fresh feeling, I can't put it all into words. It's a dream," Hansen said. "It's an unbelievable feeling. They always say that in the movies. It's unreal. But this time I actually have no words."
Hansen is known for a doing a unique dance warm up instead of the typical bending and stretching, but it's her hard work that has really paid off.
"We're so grateful. After so many years, watching her work so hard, we're just so proud of her," said John Hansen, Kate's father.
