(KSL News) A member of the Hogle Zoo is recovering from a successful surgery today.
Muke, the African-born gorilla, had a hysterectomy today because she has uterine and likely ovarian cancer.
Zoo officials say tissue samples taken from a polyp will be sent to a lab for further testing.
They were planning to euthanize the ape if the cancer had spread, but after today, they say there is no reason to do that.
