SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man who police say has a lot of experience being booked into jail, apparently used that background to drive himself to a restricted area of the Salt Lake County Jail where he was promptly arrested again.
The man claimed to be a police officer, according to investigators. He and two other men pulled up to the jail's intake gate about 5:45 p.m. Friday and claimed they had a combative prisoner with them who needed to be admitted, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report.
"There is a particular way that agencies identify themselves (to jail staffers)," said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Cammie Skogg.
Apparently because of his experience being booked into jail, the driver knew the correct vernacular to get jail staff to open the gate. He then drove back to the intake vehicle sallyport, according to the report.
But when deputies came outside to assist with the alleged combative prisoner, Skogg said they immediately recognized the driver and at least one of the other men as former inmates.
The driver, Cody Timothy John Warr, 39, was arrested and booked into the jail for investigation of impersonating a police officer and trespassing. Troy McKissick and James Swan were also arrested for investigation of trespassing.
Skogg said deputies were still investigating what the trio's intentions were. She noted that marijuana was found in their vehicle, and "initial indicators were they were intoxicated."
