PARK CITY — The bobsleigh and skeleton World Cup is taking place in Utah this weekend, and one of Utah's own has already won gold and set a track record.
Noelle Pikus-Pace of Eagle Mountain broke the track record that stood for almost 12 years with a 49.74 second run.
The win comes on the heels of a devastating disqualification for Pikus-Pace in the World Cup race in Calgary, Alberta on November 29.
Patricia Pikus, Pikus-Pace's mother said she has seen her daughter grow in confidence through her career.
"I see her more sure of herself, more relaxed and accepting whatever will happen, so she's just giving herself her best, trying to do her best and she knows whatever happens is meant to be," Pikus-Pace said.
Pikus-Pace's fans, friends and family braved the temperatures and made a lot of noise to support her run.
"This is what makes it possible. It's all the support. The support of sponsors, the support of friends and family, and I really couldn't be here without any of them," Pikus-Pace said.
Lee Pikus, Pikus-Pace's father, said this record breaking run surpassed his dreams.
"When you sit there as a dad and holder her in your arms, you are going 'What's going to be her outcome?' I never dreamed it would be this," he said.
Other Utah bobsleigh athletes, including Steve Holcomb and Chris Fogt, are racing tonight.
The bobsleigh and skeleton World Cup continues through the weekend at Utah Olympic park, admission is free.
