BEAVER — Six people survived a rollover crash on I-15 Wednesday, but troopers say that wouldn't have been the case if they hadn't worn seat belts.
"I just talked to the sergeant on scene down there and he said this crash would have had a lot more serious injuries and possibly been fatal if they hadn't all been wearing their seat belts," Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.
The group was traveling south in a van when it lost control shortly before 6:30 p.m. and swerved into the median, where it rolled several times, crossing the northbound lanes, Royce said.
Thanks to the seat belts, no one was ejected from the vehicle.
Some of the vehicle's occupants sustained serious injuries and were transported by ambulance to Beaver Valley Hospital. A medical helicopter was also dispatched to meet the victims at the hospital.
The UHP did not provide additional information about the group, their ages or injuries.
Troopers were unsure what caused the vehicle to swerve and the accident remains under investigation, Royce said.
