Sam Penrod Reporting There was a dramatic rescue tonight near Bridal Veil Falls. The victim was rock climbing when he fell 40-50 feet.

His rescue is still going on, and it is very difficult because now it is dark and the victim is having to be carried out on a very steep and rugged trail.

The 25-year old man was rock climbing in an area known as Upper Falls, which is just east of Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon. About 8:00, the man slipped and fell 40-50 feet to a ledge.

A friend called 911, but it took rescue crews nearly an hour to hike up to the victim. Once they got there, the victim was put on a backboard and paramedics spent some time getting the man stabilized, before they started back down the trail.

By then, it was dark so rescuers were using flashlights as they headed down the mountain. An Air Med helicopter is standing by to fly the victim to the hospital when he gets off the mountain.

We are told the victim is expected to survive, but exactly what his injuries are is still not known. Certainly it seems he is fortunate to have survived such a terrible fall.
