Sandra Yi ReportingPolice in Salt Lake search for a man who surprised a woman and carjacked her at gunpoint last night. This may have been a crime of opportunity. Police don't know why the suspect confronted the woman. She told officers she didn't recognize him from anywhere.

It happened around 10:30 last night. Police say the victim pulled into the garage of her Salt Lake City home. That's when a man came up behind her, pointed a gun to her face and then demanded her car keys.

Police say, the woman did not fight back. Instead, she backed away and gave him the keys. They say that was the right way to handle the situation.

Det. Joe Cyr, Salt Lake City Police Dept.: "The important thing to remember is that property, such as car or cash, can be replaced. Your health, your safety, your wellbeing cannot be replaced, and it's important to take care of that first."

The victim was not hurt. The suspect drove off in her car. It's a 1997 Dodge Neon, with Utah License Plate 979-LFT. If you have any information, call Salt Lake City Police.

Police point out, crimes like this don't happen here too often.
