SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- An attorney for an Orem company accused of hiring undocumented workers says Universal Industrial Sales is not guilty of a federal indictment handed up earlier this month.

James Gilson entered the plea on behalf of UIS in U.S. District Court on Tuesday. Officials from the Lindon, Utah-based industrial sign maker were not present.

UIS is charged with 10 counts of harboring illegal immigrants, all of whom were employed by the company between January 2003 and December 2006.

For each count UIS faces a financial penalty of up to $500,000 or twice the amount of profits gained from the employee's work, whichever is greater.

Federal immigration officials raided UIS Feb. 7, arresting more than 50 undocumented workers.
