Carole Mikita and Lance Bandley ReportingThe film critics have had their say about 'The Da Vinci Code'; now the movie-goers decide, is it a blockbuster or not?
The much-hyped movie has finally premiered. Based on the bestseller, 'The Da Vinci Code' film trailers promised action, suspense and romance. But did it deliver? We talked with some in the crowd who came out of one theatre's first screening.
Matt Jacon, Ventura, Ca.: "I thought it was a pretty good movie. Not every book can be made into a good movie but this one seemed to have a lot of potential and I think it lived up to it."
Edith Scown, North Salt Lake "Quite a story. Yeh, it was good."
Paul Scown, North Salt Lake: "I thought it was well-done. They left out some of the stuff that I remember in the book, but what they showed was well-done."
Many critics were not crazy about Tom Hanks as professor Robert Langdon, but what do movie-goers think?
Ellis Wood, West Valley City: "I thought he played a pretty good part. I thought you could tell Tom's a pretty good actor and did a pretty good job there."
The movie drew many people who just had to see it the first screening day, compelled to go, they said.
Laura Haley, Salt Lake City: "I have read the book and I'm curious to see what Ron Howard's going to do with it. All those trailers, yeh, they've been teasing me for awhile now."
So, too, a lot of others. Some Utah theatres have sold out screenings. Expectations are high for record-breaking weekend ticket sales. We'll know by Monday morning.
