SALT LAKE CITY — Jordan High School came into its game against Copper Hills with a record of 2-3 and left 3-3 with a win of 42-0 over the Grizzlies. This was the Beet Diggers' final non-region game. Jordan’s quarterback Austin Kafentzis and the Beat Diggers are coming off a 49-27 win over Herriman last week.

The Beat Diggers went to Copper Hills Friday night looking to make a statement that they are ready for region play next week. Kafentzis had a pair of touchdown passes — one to Clay Moss for 21 yards and the other to Tayler Johnson for 21 yards.

Kafentzis also used his feet to score two rushing touchdowns for 40 yards and 21 yards to open up the lead for Jordan. He had some help from running back Clay Moss, who had a 7-yard touchdown.

Helaman Matemate made a huge defensive play when he took a pick-six all the way to the end zone for 65 yards, which gave Jordan a 42-0 lead and was final score of the game.

The Copper Hills Grizzlies played their first game without suspended head coach John Teuscher and their former offensive line coach John Cullen. The Copper Hills Grizzlies will try to capture their first win next week when they take on West Jordan.

Jordan will head to Alta next week. Asked what he can take from Friday's win for next week, head coach Eric Kjar said, “Execution and defense are things we can improve on. It was another test that you can live and learn from.” You can follow David Winkworth on Twitter @Davito23
