(KSL News) -- The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office today honored colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Officers laid a wreath at a monument listing the names of those killed in the line of duty.
Sheriff Aaron Kennard said law enforcement has gotten more -dangerous in recent years because criminals are now more likely to engage officers.
Sheriff Aaron Kennard, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office: "You have gang bangers out there who don't plan on living past the age of 25, and it seems like one of their creeds or indoctrinations into their gangs is to make sure they take somebody with them."
Kennard also called for lawmakers to pass tougher legislation against those who use violence against police officers.
