LOS ANGELES (AP) - A 10-year-old boy has died after suffering a severe head injury when the modified golf cart he was riding in overturned in an exclusive gated community north of Beverly Hills.

City News Service reports the boy died Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, about two hours after the crash was reported in Beverly Park.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey says the cart was carrying two men and three boys when it overturned.

The injured boy was rushed to the hospital in grave condition. The coroner's office later identified him as Mark Martinez.

The other occupants were unhurt.

Police were investigating but could provide no further details.

Beverly Park is a private community known for its large homes and famous residents, including Magic Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson.

Humphrey says it's common for residents to travel through the community by moped, bikes and golf carts.
