This is my best in show, Buddy the Dog. You've probably heard me talk about him before. For Buddy, who is a Border Collie, it's all about the ball (or the Frisbee or the rope toy). And when it's not about the ball (or the Frisbee or the rope toy) it's still about the ball (or the Frisbee or the rope toy). First thing I have to do when I get up in the morning is throw the ball or the Frisbee. The minute I toss the covers off Buddy is right there, "Come on, come on, come on, let's play." Same when I get home at night. He will literally chase the ball until he drops from exhaustion. Buddy is very teachable, he learns quickly. I had him house trained in just a couple of days. "Out here? Okay got it." Many people say Border Collies are very smart and while that may be true, Buddy still barks at the toaster. He's a great dog even though he might not be the best dog for a single guy like me because Border Collies need to be busy all the time. But I just couldn't resist when I met him at the shelter 4 years ago. I love him. I tell you this in order to ask you for a couple of favors. First, if you're looking for a pet, please, please go to your local shelter. There are far too many animals that will be gone far too soon if they don't find good homes. Secondly, please call your state legislator and tell them to pass Henry's Law. Animal torture should be a felony. All I have to do is look in the eyes of my friend Buddy the Dog to know why.
