NEW YORK (AP) - Fans attending the U.S. Open this year will have to pass through metal detectors as part of the U.S. Tennis Association's enhanced security.

The screening process will also include the use of wands to check spectators. There will be a limit of one bag per person and backpacks are prohibited at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, which has drawn more than 650,000 fans over the two-week span of the tournament the last six years.

Play begins Monday, with defending champion Serena Williams, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal among those playing in 23,000-seat Arthur Ashe Stadium.
