PROVO — A standoff is over and a man is in custody after he allegedly fired shots in his backyard.

At 9:30 a.m. Friday, Provo police received a call about shots fired in the backyard of a residence near 1000 South and 700 West. As officers responded, they received information that a 34-year-old man was in the home, intoxicated and upset about marital issues, Provo Police Department Lt. Matthew Siufanua said.

Police set up a perimeter around the home while SWAT and the bomb squad responded. They were using a robot Friday afternoon to contact the man.

Immediate neighbors were evacuated from the area. Police did not initially believe anyone else was in the home with the man.

Just after 1 p.m., police made contact with the man and took him into custody without injury.
