LAKE POWELL — A man was killed after being ejected from a boat and then hit by it Wednesday evening on Lake Powell.
David Hinton, 23, was boating near the Dangling Rope marina when he hit a submerged rock or island around 8 p.m., according to Utah State Parks Public Affairs Coordinator Eugene Swalberg. Hinton was ejected from the front of the boat upon hitting the object, and he was then struck by the boat.
A medical helicopter was dispatched to the area after the accident, and Hinton was pronounced dead upon the arrival of the emergency responders. The man had received blunt trauma during the accident.
Swalberg warned boaters to maneuver more cautiously with the low water levels at Lake Powell.
"You need to adjust your operating speed of the boat and become more familiar with the area you are boating in," Swalberg said. "It happened near sunset so you need to be more cautious with low water and low light."
Hinton was a resident of Logan.
State Park rangers will continue investigating the cause of the accident. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
