WEST JORDAN — Crews worked through the night to remove dozens of power poles that snapped as a result of microburst winds in West Jordan.

U-111 remains closed from 8200 South to 10600 South. A Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman said Tuesday morning that the goal is to reopen the road by the Tuesday evening commute.

Crews are working to remove approximately 60 power poles that came crashing down Monday. They are focusing on getting them out of the road. They haven't even started repairing or replacing the poles.

Rocky Mountain Power said it will be a multi-day process to repair the poles and thread the power line. Local power should not be impacted.

The microburst winds that closed this section of U-111 were measured by the National Weather Service at 45 mph. About 3,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers lost service as a result of the poles toppling over, but that power was quickly re-routed and restored.

Two stop lights at the intersection of Bacchus Highway and New Bingham Highway also came down in the wind and were still not working Tuesday morning. New Bingham Highway between 6400 West and Copperton remains closed.

Commuters who typically use U-111 between 8200 South and 10600 South can use the Mountain View Corridor instead. Drivers trying to reach Copperton will want to use Old Bingham Highway. New Bingham Highway to Copperton likely will open Tuesday afternoon, once all the debris and poles are cleared.
