Monrovia (dpa)- Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf was expected to leave Liberia Saturday for a two-day visit to Libya.
According to a presidential mansion source, Johnson-Sirleaf's visit is based upon an invitation by Libyan President Moamer Gaddafi.
Liberia had good relations with Libya during the era of slain president Samuel Kanyon Doe, leading to the construction of the Liberian-Libyan Holding Company, an eight-storey building now being occupied by the United Nations Mission in Liberia.
Former president Charles Taylor, a war crimes indictee, was reportedly supported by Colonel Gaddafi when he launched his rebellion in December 1989, with the defunct NPFL rebels reportedly undergoing commando training in Libya.
