Carole Mikita Reporting Today we report a happy outcome to a story we have been following for a couple of weeks now. Chester the service dog was going into surgery the last time we saw him to remove a tumor from his intestines.
The first piece of good news his owner received was that it was not cancerous. The operation went well and Chester has returned to his family.
In our first report, Steven Singley was very worried about his service dog who needed the operation, but because he lives on a fixed income, he couldn't afford it. People from throughout the state saw our story and donated money and services. Chester is now recovering and back at Steven's side.
Steven Singley, Service Dog Owner: "When he greeted us, he was just the happiest guy, smiling and jumpin' up and wantin' to go home. He ran right to the door to get out of the veterinarian's office. We've got enough that we can have a savings account for Chester's future hospital or veterinarian visits and take care of him in the future."
Chester's bank account also has enough money in it that Steven says he will donate to his veterinarian's emergency fund for other pets whose owners cannot afford treatment.
Chester has a couple weeks of recovery but his doctor says he should be fine
