OGDEN CANYON — After being closed most of Wednesday afternoon, the road through Ogden Canyon was reopened after crews completed cleanup of a landslide at the mouth of the canyon.

A 24-inch city waterline failed near the mouth of Ogden Canyon around noon. That caused "a torrent of water and debris to rain down upon state Route 39," according to a UDOT news release.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, UDOT said the road had been reopened.

Several safety barriers lining the highway were knocked into the Ogden River, as well. Crews removed them from the river and replaced them along the road before the highway reopened. The road is narrow so all lanes were closed during the cleanup and repair.

Ogden City has been working for the past five months to replace the waterline that failed, and work on the new line was recently completed.
