NEW YORK (AP) -- AOL is laying off about 13-hundred workers across the country, including here in Utah.
That's about seven percent of its workforce.
The company is closing a call center in Jacksonville, Florida. Other cuts are being to call centers in Ogden, Utah and Tucson, Arizona.
AOL's subscription base has declined over the years as Internet users continue to switch from dial-up to broadband.
However, a company spokesman attributes the layoffs to more savvy users and better tools online that keep customers from having to call for help. He says call volume has dropped by about 50 percent since 2004.
