PROVO CANYON — A two-vehicle accident resulted in several injuries and delayed traffic for a few hours Monday afternoon on U.S. 189.
Utah Highway Patrol officers responded to an accident one mile into Provo Canyon on U.S. 189 around 12:47 p.m. A 1999 Chevrolet Suburban drove out of the Story Telling Park and turned right to head south on U.S. 189. The Suburban then made a U-turn to begin driving north.
A 2008 Nissan Versa was driving south at the time the suburban began making a U-turn, and the Nissan struck the left side of the suburban.
Erin Lambert, 19, of Kingman, Ariz., was the driver of the Suburban and had two 18-year-old female passengers. None of them were injured in the accident.
Ruth Petersen, 44, of Springville was the driver of the Nissan. She broke her back in the accident, and she was transported to a local hospital.
Petersen had a 18-year-old female passenger in the front seat who received back and rib injuries. A 16-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt and was also injured in the accident on his right leg and side. A 12-year-old passenger was also not wearing a seat belt and received head injuries during the impact.
All the passengers of the Nissan were transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
Lambert received a traffic citation due to the accident.
