Fox Sports is strongly considering Pam Oliver or Jeanne Zelasko to host its Sunday NFL pregame show, according to sources.

If Fox executives pull the trigger, it arguably will be the highest profile position a woman sportscaster has ever held, because the role would include hosting the Super Bowl in January 2008.

Whoever gets the gig will replace James Brown, who bolted Fox to become host of CBS' NFL pregame.

Zelasko already has been in for a tryout with Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and Jimmy Johnson. Oliver is expected to do a trial run with the trio sometime in the next month.

"We think the world of both Pam and Jeanne, but are refraining from comment in order to be fair and respectful to everyone involved," Fox Sports spokesman Tim Buckman said.

Fox also is considering former Fox 5-New York anchor Curt Menefee, former SportsCenter anchor Kevin Frazier and Fox Sports NASCAR host Chris Myers, and is still brainstorming for more ideas.

Zelasko has hosted Fox Sports' World Series pregame show, but does not play a huge role in its coverage. Hannah Storm hosted the World Series and the NBA Finals for NBC, but no woman has been the main anchor on a Super Bowl.

If John Davidson were to leave MSG Network to become team president for Dave Checketts' St. Louis Blues - which is not a done deal yet, but very well could happen - Dave Maloney and Ed Olczyk are expected to be atop the list as of possible replacements. Maloney calls Rangers radio, while Olczyk is on NBC and OLN.

Classic Chris Russo: Monday, he criticized ESPN Radio host Mike Greenberg for saying this week's Yankee-Red Sox series was scheduled for three games instead of two. Problem was that Russo called Greenberg "Mike Goldberg." You can't be doing that!

FoxSports.com baseball insider Ken Rosenthal will have a weekly segment on Fox's Saturday MLB pregame show. Rosenthal's addition is a good move for what is normally an elementary look at the game with Zelasko and Kevin Kennedy. Rosenthal will report from game sites. Last year, Rosenthal chose a more lucrative offer from Fox over one from ESPN.

Need more Yankees-Red Sox? On Monday at 10:30 p.m., Fox Sports Net has an interesting show called "Yankees-Red Sox: The Ultimate Rivalry.'' The documentary - produced by MLB Productions - is narrated by Joe Torre.

Since NYP TV Sports is television sports' four-page, color-packed pullout of record, here are the Sports Emmy stats: The ESPN empire (ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN Classic/ESPN.com) took the conglomerate division with 10. HBO won the most for one entity with seven. While Fox Sports led all the broadcast networks with five. Of course, all would take a Matchup victory or a positive Memo in a second over the winged statuette.

SNY is trying to set up what it is referring to as "Wednesdays with Omar." The thought being that every Wednesday, GM Omar Minaya will join the Mets' game telecasts for an inning or as part of the pregame. Minaya's schedule may make it hard for it to be a weekly segment.
