Gene Kennedy ReportingWhat began as threatening text messages became a standoff, and eventually came to a fatal end.

Last night on Eyewitness News at 10 we broke the news of a man making threats and holding police at bay for more than an hour. Now we know that the man committed suicide.

SWAT surrounded the home on 28th Street in Ogden around 10:00 last night.

According to Ogden Police, the man inside was writing text messages to his wife, threatening to kill himself. Police say he also threatened to kill his four- year-old daughter.

The little girl's mom had dropped her off at the home earlier in the day.

Tony Fox, Ogden City Police Dept.: "When we were first notified of the incident, we believed the child was with him."

Turns out the little girl was at a neighbor's house a couple of doors down. Her father asked that someone watch her. So she's safe this morning.

As for the suicidal man, negotiators tried to talk him out of the home, but not long after SWAT surrounded the residence police heard a single gun shot.

SWAT went in and found the 25-year-old man dead inside.

Overnight, Ogden Police have been notifying family members of what happened.
