Here are some tips from makeup artist Kathy Eckenbrecht about how women over 40 should apply foundation. "The color is huge. Test your foundation. In the summer you don't need a darker foundation. If you're not tanning and your skin isn't darker, don't use a darker foundation; stay true to your natural skin tone," Eckenbrecht advises. She recommends a liquid foundation for women over 40 because of the added moisture.

"There are a lot of really great foundations out now with reflective qualities--glow the illuminating qualities that is an anti-aging quality," Eckenbrecht says. She says if you are applying the foundation yourself, you should use your fingers. "You want to dab over the concealer, otherwise you've just wiped away all your hard work."

She recommends dabbing more foundation when you need it. She says cheeks need less dabbing. This technique helps the skin around the eyes and nose start to glow.
