SALT LAKE CITY — It used to take scrolling through timetables to plan a bus ride, but the Utah Transit Authority has made it easier by launching new online route-planning tools.

The new tools include a mobile trip planning application, a revamped website, a social media hub and a carpool matching database — all accessible via any web-enabled smart phone, cell phone or mobile device, at www.uta2go.com.
"We are working to find new and better ways to interact with our customers," said UTA General Manager Michael Allegra. "These new tools will help us share information with riders when and how they want it."
UTA's website also includes the "new and improved" trip planner, simplified navigation tools and greater emphasis on rider information. In the last few months, the agency has also increased its efforts to interact with customers through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, Flikr, YouTube and three new blogs.
It also promotes carpooling and other alternative commuting methods through its UTA Rideshare program, which also has a new website. It features an online tool that makes carpooling easier. It includes an option to join existing carpools, initiate new ones and find travel companions. Rideshare.com also features information on vanpooling, discount transit pass programs, biking and the U Car Share program offered in the Salt Lake City area by U-Haul International.
UTA is also seeking feedback from the public on the new tools.
"Our goal is to help our customers have the best experience possible every time they ride UTA," Allegra said.
