WEST POINT — A West Point man who was using his hot tub as a way to relax Saturday, but it quickly became a important aide in reporting crime.
The man, who didn't want to be identified, was sitting in his outdoor hot tub on a Saturday morning, when he saw someone lurking in his neighborhood. The man said the suspicious individual was dressed in black clothing and walking from house to house, checking for open doors and also going through sheds.
The man then climbed out of his hot tub and called the police to report the suspicious activity. Deputies from the Davis County Sheriff's Office responded and quickly apprehended the suspected burglar.
"He was just a really great witness," said Davis County Sgt. Susan Poulsen. "And he didn't get involved in it, he didn't put himself in the middle of it, which was another great thing on his part."
Police are working with the suspected thief to track down the stolen merchandise. The suspect had already sold many of the items to friends and local pawn shops, police said.
