MAGNA — The mother of a Cyprus High student has been charged with aggravated assault after a school official said she choked a student following an October football game.

Fetu Solovi, 37, of Magna, was charged Monday with the second-degree felony.

Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley said the Oct. 17 incident occurred when a fight broke out on campus between a group of female students. A mother of one of the students got involved, strangling one of the girls, he said.

The 16-year-old student said Solovi grabbed her by the throat, strangling her to the point that she couldn't breathe, the charges filed in 3rd District Court state.

Unified police officers who were present for the football game responded immediately to the incident, Horsely said. The 16-year-old suffered bruises and markings on her neck.
