This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
In meeting with Brandon Foote of Redmond Heritage Farms in Redmond, Utah, I couldn't help but think, when was the last time I thanked a farmer or a rancher?
Even though it's tough work, most of the folks you meet in this business wouldn't do anything else. There's no sleeping in and turning off the alarm when you're running a ranch like Redmond Heritage Farms, especially with farm and ranch families comprising just 2 percent of the U.S. population.
Redmond Heritage Farms is raising all-natural meat, farm-fresh eggs and honey. As Brandon says, the animals are eating what they're supposed to eat and producing food the way nature intended. When you have relaxed grass-fed dairy cows, they produce healthy and clean raw milk. In fact, the milk changes color based on the season.
The customers at Redmond Heritage Farms, from all over Utah, love the taste of the fresh milk. Raw milk has the same standard as pasteurized milk with the bacteria count.
The beef raised at Redmond Heritage Farms is on a low-carb diet, so they have higher levels of omega 3s in their fat. The pigs are fed older produce from the farm. The chickens are pasture or free range, and the honey bees get their flavor from living at the Oak Ranch. It's a bit more remote, but the honey is also produced and processed locally at partner bee farmers.
In running Redmond Heritage Farms, the focus on natural foods means they tend to the soil, production, process and, last but not least, the customer. They have a loyal customer base that shops at one of their three Real Foods Markets in Orem, St. George or Heber City with a new store opening in Salt Lake City. The farm is located 10 miles north of Salina and you can visit their website, redmondfarms.com.
The ranch started almost 10 years ago with Redmond, Inc. as the holding company. Word is getting out on Redmond Heritage Farms and between the ranch and sister companies, there are 15 full-time and 15 part-time employees.
